Russian plane crashes in Egypt

A Russian passenger plane with 224 people on board crashed in a mountainous part of Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Saturday, leaving “many” dead including 17 children, officials said.

The chartered plane had taken off from the south Sinai resort of Sharm el-Sheikh bound for Saint Petersburg and lost contact with air traffic control 23 minutes later before crashing in the restive peninsula.

Petrol prices likely to increase by Rs. 5.73 per litr, Pakistan

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has recommended the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to hike prices of petroleum goods by Rs. 5.73 per litre, ARY News reports.

OGRA, in its summary, has recommended the petroleum ministry to hike per litre price of petrol by Rs. 5.28 per litre and to increase the cost of high octane fuel by 5.73 per litre.

The oil and gas monitory body has suggested the federal government to raise the cost of high speed diesel by Rs. 3.34 whereas the rate of kerosene oil is likely to go up by Rs. 3.89 per litre.

OGRA has also recommended the petroleum ministry to hike the price of light speed diesel by Rs. 2.70 per litre.

Finance Ministry will announce the revised petrol prices on 31st October after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s approval.

40 dead as Syria govt rockets hit Damascus suburb

BEIRUT: Forty people were killed on Friday when rockets fired by Syrian government forces crashed into a market in a rebel-held area outside Damascus, a monitor said.

“There were 40 people killed and at least 100 wounded in the centre of Douma,” a town in the Eastern Ghouta suburb of the Syrian capital, Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

Baloch rebels lay down arms in Pakistan

Thirty Baloch rebels and two commanders on Thursday surrendered to the Pakistan authorities, a provincial government minister said, the latest insurgents to lay down their arms in troubled Balochistan province.The 32 militants were from two separatist groups, the Baloch Liberation Army and the United Baloch Army, which have long been fighting government forces in gas rich Balochistan which borders Iran and Afghanistan.

Local Body Elections Pakistan: Electioneering comes to an end, troops deployed in ‘sensitive districts’

As the electioneering for the first phase of local bodies elections in Sindh and Punjab ended electoral material being transported to polling stations under the police security. More than 20 million voters will exercise their right to vote in eight districts of Sindh and 12 districts of Punjab on Saturday. Polling will be held from 7:30am to 5:30pm.
All presiding officers will be delegated the powers of a first-class magistrate.
